Role You Will Play

  • Reviews documents including, but not limited to; trust documents, acceptances, resignations, declinations, decantings, release and indemnification agreements, modifications, court petitions, language and documents related to Directed and Delegated trusts and Special Needs Trusts, and serves as liaison with inside and outside counsel across geographies.
  • Ensures administrative actions are consistent with regulations and Bank policy and procedures, and identifies and resolves potential trust and tax related issues.
  • Provides support to all Trust Officers and Advisors on day -to-day matters that involve trust administration.
  • Provides oversight of administration of Special Needs Trusts.
  • Serves as the chairperson of the Trust Administrative Committee (“TAC”) when appointed by the Managing Director of Trust & Wealth, reviews all TAC submissions, request s clarification for requests as needed prior to meeting, guides discussion during meeting and review s TAC minutes prior to dissemination.
  • Participates with compliance officers, risk officers and regional trust officers to ensure successful internal and external audit results .
  • Seeks opportunities to write and present on various trust topics at appropriate venues and travel as needed to attend industry events, and also speaks on Trust & Wealth services and meets with centers of influence and prospects.
  • Coordinates delivery of external continuing education in regional markets.
  • Participates in projects and initiatives as requested by the Managing Director of Trust & Wealth.
  • Participates in Trust Committee meetings when requested by the Managing Director of Trust & Wealth.
  • Engages in continuing education to stay up to date with applicable pro bate and trust law and investment regulations; fiduciary income tax, technical knowledge of federal estate, gift and GST tax and multi-state estate and tax planning issues.
  • Conducts effective internal and external presentations.
  • Establishes relationships with fellow employees to maximize business development potential.
  • Regularly exercises discretion and judgment in the performance of essential job functions.
  • Maintains good punctuality and attendance to work.
  • Follows Bank policy, procedures, and guidelines.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of applicable probate and trust law and investment regulations; technical knowledge of federal estate, gift and GST tax ; understanding of multi -state estate and tax planning.
  • Ability to interpret legal documents.
  • Ability to work in a team environment both internally and externally with clients’ advisors and centers of influence.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective presentation skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective organization, critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and demonstrate flexibility in a continually changing environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor degree required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a trust and estate attorney, personal trust administrator, or other relevant experience required.
  • Experience with high net worth planning and administration preferred.
  • Active State Bar license preferred.
  • LLM in Taxation preferred.
