Description
The Anderson Search Group has been engaged by a community bank just under $1bn in assets to identify a Commercial Lender for its Minneapolis market.
Our client is a community-focused, mission-driven financial institution with a growing commercial banking platform. This is an opportunity for a credit-trained Commercial Lender to build and manage a portfolio while developing relationships throughout the Minneapolis market.
Unlike models where the Relationship Manager hands a relationship off after the loan closes, this banker will own and manage the portfolio they develop. The bank has dedicated Credit Analysts and Credit Administration resources responsible for underwriting, along with Treasury Management partners who work alongside the Commercial Lenders.
The Opportunity
The Commercial Lender will be responsible for developing new commercial relationships while managing and expanding an existing portfolio.
The bank is looking for a well-rounded commercial lender capable of working across:
- C&I
- Owner-occupied and investor commercial real estate
- SBA
- Select construction opportunities
- Deposits and broader commercial banking relationships
Typical transactions are expected to fall in the $500K–$2MM range, with an initial annual loan-production expectation of approximately $5MM.
This is not a desk-oriented position. The expectation is that the banker will be active in the market developing clients and COI relationships. The position is based from the bank's Minneapolis location, with flexibility to work remotely when appropriate around client and prospect activity.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Commercial banking/lending experience with demonstrated business-development responsibility
- Formal or substantive credit training
- Ideally 2+ years of commercial lending experience
- Experience managing a commercial loan portfolio
- Ability to understand and structure C&I and CRE transactions
- Proven ability or demonstrated potential to generate new loans, deposits and fee income
- Strong relationship-management and COI-development skills
- Ability to partner effectively with Credit, Treasury Management and other areas of the bank
- Established knowledge of the Minneapolis market preferred
The bank will consider someone earlier in their lending career, but this is not designed for someone moving directly from Credit Analyst into their first calling role without prior lending/business-development experience.
Compensation
Base salary: approximately $98K–$125K, depending upon experience.
The bank is redesigning its commercial incentive plan around:
- 50% loan production
- 20% deposit growth
- 20% fee income
- 10% credit compliance
A banker achieving established goals could earn an incentive of approximately 20% of base salary, in addition to eligibility for a separate company-wide performance bonus.
